How truck finance works

Truck finance is usually a business loan secured by the truck, most commonly a chattel mortgage. Lenders look at the truck's age, use and value, along with your trading history and the work lined up for it.

New to owner-driving? Some lenders will consider newer ABNs if you have industry experience, contracts in place or a deposit. We'll be upfront about what's realistic.

Loan options

Ways to structure it

Which option suits depends on how you'll use the asset, your income and your plans. We'll walk you through the pros and cons.

Chattel mortgage

The most common truck finance structure. You own the truck from day one.

Commercial hire purchase

The lender owns the truck until the final payment.

Finance lease

Lease the truck with an agreed residual at the end of the term.

Low-doc truck finance

For some established operators who may not have current financials. Lender criteria apply.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get truck finance with a new ABN?

Possibly. Industry experience, a deposit, a contract or property can all help. We'll tell you which lenders are worth approaching.

Can you finance older trucks?

Lenders set their own limits on a truck's age. Tell us the year and model and we'll check.

Can the trailer be included?

Yes, a truck and trailer can usually be financed together or as separate facilities.

Are there balloon options?

Yes, many truck loans allow a balloon to reduce repayments. It means a lump sum at the end, so plan for it.
